SATC is just a really long episode of the season, and it was great! I went into the movie expecting to see another episode, and was not disappointed. The girls, Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte have continued on with their lives, albeit some changes have happened, and they still question their happiness and what they want in life. All of the girls are encountering a problem with which they must deal in their lives. From problems with each other to problems with their significant others. This movie has it all, anything a SATC fan would want. Sex, nudity, clothes, shoes and great dialogue.

The movie is a most for every SATC fan, you will love it. It is full of laughs and cries and gorgeous dresses and shoes (the most important part of course). This movie was one big, monumental fashion show. Heck, they even go to a fashion show at one point. Steve outdid himself and he was as adorable a ever (how can you really hate him!?). I just wish we would have seen more of Harry and Mr. Big and all the other men.

My favorite part (without ruining the plot) if when they are talking about happiness and they say that it is not possible to be always happy. Charlotte promptly volunteers that she is always happy, well, not all of the time, she is not happy all of the day! Dear Charlotte, she has all that she wants, and by the end, the girls get to a place, where they finally living their lives.

Prepared as I was to adore the remake of the 1955 version (in which the lover is, for some unfathomable reason, an American reporter rather than an English government functionary), I was crushingly disappointed with the remake. Grahame Greene’s whole premise was distorted by having the Julianne Moore character meet secretly with a priest to help her resist the temptation to return to her lover.

Greene’s story is of a woman, baptized but not a practicing Roman Catholic, who seeks counsel from an atheist in order to convince herself that her vow (to end her affair if her lover’s life is spared) is of no worth. Her eventual loss of the will to live is directly related to her inability to divest herself of her conviction that she must never again see the man she loves. The implication is that her baptism “took.” Despite her not consciously adhering to Christian tenets and her wishing to justify ignoring her vow, she is somehow compelled against her will to keep it.

Disrespecting the author’s intent insults the intelligence of the audience. Did the producers see viewers as incapable of comprehending how convoluted such rationalization can become? Or did they themselves fail to understand what it is to have a deep conflict of conscience? The irony of the story is utterly lost in translation! Tsk. Tsk.

O Deborah Kerr and Van Johnson, come back. All is forgiven.

Alan Rudolph’s Mortal Thoughts is a drama about murder, not movie murder where a hitmen shoots a guy dead with rock music on the soundtrack, but real-life murder, where the killer/killers have a crises of conscience, act with shock, disbelief and paranoia.

The film is set around two couples, James (Bruce Willis) & Joyce(Glenne Headly)and Cynthia(Demi Moore) & Arthur (John Pankow). The film starts out as a pitch black comedy, with Bruce Willis giving an excellent performance as the loud, abusive and downright nasty James. His wife Joyce played by the lovely Glenne Headly is a neurotic who is constantly half kidding her best friend Cynthia about how she would like to kill him. The whole movie is carefully framed with a detective (Harvey Kietel) asking Cynthia questions about one or several crimes. Slowly the flashbacks reveal the events as if they were happening in real time, and the film’s momentum builds to a point where it becomes an unbearably tense drama.

The murder or murders in Mortal Thoughts are not commited by a movie-physcopath, but people who have lost their nerve. Throught out the film they have to clean up after it, hide evidence and virtually go insane in the proccess. It the documentary like portrayel of the murders and the first rate acting that makes this film so much better then the countless other murder mysteries you may have seen.

The film however does have one major flaw. After slowly revealing its cards with tense intorrogation scenes the ending is a complete cop out. Without giving anything away, I will say that after working so hard on revealing the facts in the detective’s questioning, the truth is unveiled by us seeing the thoughts of one of the major characters. This is not only cheating, but it also leaves a second major crime unresolved.

Despite this, I highly reccomend you see this film. It has a certain truthfulness that makes it more unerving then many serial killer movies.

Jodie Foster became an actress to watch with this movie. This movie is definitely influenced by early Law & Order. First a movie about a crime, then a movie about society’s responsibility in the crime.

Jodie Foster is a fiery independent woman who goes to a local bar after a fight with her boyfriend. She has mischief on her mind but when a group of frat boys decide they will not take no for an answer, they rape her on the pinball machine.

She then faces further humiliation of the police and the degradation of trial where she, the victim, is put on trial. After the perpetrators are acquitted, the prosecutor (Kelly McGillis) puts the spectators on trial. This movie says that not only are the people who commit the crime responsible but those who stand by and encourage it to happen.

Tom Topor wrote the outstanding screenplay. He also wrote the play and screen adaptation of Nuts, another great courtroom drama. His heroine is not a clean cut responsible person but a flawed woman trying to make a living and a life. This is more realistic than other films that would have a perfect Sarah.

Jodie Foster gives a well deserved Oscar winning performance. This was her coming out party. She was no longer a child star or a sensation. Kelly McGillis gives her best performance of her career. She also should have been nominated but Foster overshadowed her.

Sense and Sensibility wasn’t the strongest or most well-developed of Jane Austen’s novels, but the characters will still draw you in, especially as they are portrayed so well in this movie version. The film is visually beautiful (it has the quality of a brightly colored painting), and the performances are absorbing. Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet play Elinor and Marianne Dashwood respectively, two sisters whose family has been made poorer after their father’s death. Elinor is a sensible and practical young lady, so level-headed in fact that Marianne wonders whether she will ever love passionately; Marianne, on the other hand, is a decided romantic, easily swayed by flowers, poetry and pretty talk. In the movie they experience the highs and lows of love, and come to learn more about one another and lean upon each other as sisters should.

On the male side of the equation are Edward Ferrars (Hugh Grant), John Willoughby (Greg Wise), and Colonel Brandon (Alan Rickman). Elinor comes to feel deeply about the genial, slightly bashful Edward (more than anyone can guess), but must keep her feelings restrained when she discovers that he is promised to another. As for Willoughby and Brandon, both men factor in Marianne’s life. Willoughby is young and dashing, sweeping Marianne off her feet and playing to all her fantasies of romance; Brandon is an older man who knows he has slim chances with Marianne, and for most of the movie resigns himself to admiring her from afar.

The movie is not always tidy in bringing these relationships to resolution (just as the novel is not), but the acting is wonderful, particularly Emma Thompson as Elinor and Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon. Sense and Sensibility is ultimately a delightful entertainment.

This movie put me in a relaxed and loving mood. I don’t know whether it was the story, or the acting, or the combination of both. Johnny Depp plays yet another unorthodox character, almost as if he knows that nobody can do these roles except for him. He plays Don Juan with a confidence that is unmatched by most actors today. At first the way Don Juan speaks is annoying, but after enough time one gets use to it.

Marlon Brando plays Dr. Mickler, a psychologist who is 2 weeks away from retirement. That is until Don Juan shows up. In the beginning Mickler believes that “Don Juan” is a delusionist that needs help. But after spending time with him, he starts to change his mind. The stories that Don Juan tell to Dr. Mickler start to affect his marriage (in a good way).

Don Juan DeMarco isn’t the greatest movie in the world. It’s not even the greatest romantic comedy. However, it still works its magic on you somehow. For anybody looking for a quirky movie rent or buy this film.

Adam Sandler’s film career has had its ups and downs. From the easily forgotten “Billy Madison” to the well-intentioned but slightly miscued “Click,” Sandler has played both straight man and buffoon to varying degrees of success. In “The Wedding Singer,” Sandler manages to harness his inner goofball and pulls off a wonderful performance in what is probably his best film to date.

Sandler plays Robbie Hart, an aspiring songwriter who plays weddings for extra cash until his career takes off. He’s nice to old ladies, lives in his sister’s basement, and is the best wedding singer money can buy. At the opening of the film, Robbie and his bandmates are setting the dancefloor aflame with the 80’s classic, “You Spin Me Round” (originally by Dead or Alive). While at this wedding reception, Robbie runs into Julia (played to sweet perfection by Drew Barrymore), a soon-to-be married server with the catering service at the reception. The two hit it off instantly and become good friends. Julia even works at Robbie’s wedding and witnesses his being left at the altar by his would-be wife, Linda.

Robbie falls into a funk, refusing to play any and every wedding reception he’s offered, including Julia’s. He eventually agrees to help her set up her wedding with her Don Johnson wannabe fiance, Glenn (Matthew Glave). As any good romantic comedy would have happen, Robbie and Julia begin to fall for each other and their respective fiances are proven to be no good and undeserving of their love. Even though, neither Robbie nor Julia can openly reveal their love for one another to anybody. In the end, everything is tied nicely together by a ballad sung by Robbie, and everyone goes home happy.

The cast in this film is wonderful. Christine Taylor plays Holly, Julia’s loose cousin. Frank Sivero is hilarious in a brief role as Robbie’s brother-in-law. Steve Buscemi and Jon Lovitz also have bit roles but make the most of them. Sandler’s buddy, Allen Covert, plays his best friend, Sammy, a limo driver who wants to be like the Fonz. Alexis Arquette is George, a Boy George lookalike. Also look for Kevin Nealon as a banker who interviews Robbie.

Of course, the one thing most people seem to focus on in this film is the music and fashion of the 80’s. Pop culture abounds in this film with references to Van Halen’s breakup, Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson’s “strong” marriage, J.R. getting shot on “Dallas,” Freddy Krueger, all temperCheer, and the Dunkin’ Donuts guy. The musical lineup includes songs by Journey, Flock of Seagulls, Culture Club, David Bowie, and Huey Lewis and the News among others. Heck, Billy Idol even has a scene-stealing cameo on a flight to Las Vegas.

Obviously, if you grew up in the 80’s, you’re going to catch onto most of the pop culture references in the film. However, you need not know them in order to enjoy this film. It’s a hilarious romantic comedy that showcases the talents of Sandler and Barrymore, and I highly recommend it.

Why a man is attracted to a woman (vice versa) and how that attraction turns into a relationship (or not) is the base for this movie. Enough people wrote about the story line and famous scenes that I won’t repeat them here. What I get from watching this movie countless times is this: when a movie worked, it’s not unlike a great relationship that worked. I mean everything has to jive. This movie started out with a great idea based on personal experience and observation from Rob Reiner and Nora Ephron, a dead-pan writing, you-can’t-get-better-chemistry casting (all 4 leads), and a timeless and oh-so-romantic setting in NYC.

My admiration goes to the filmmaker for leading the audience to watch through 12 years of Harry and Sally’s separate and/or together personal growths to come to the conclusion that they are finally morphed into a matching couple. That’s how us audience can ‘feel’ and ‘root for’ the characters.

The segments where old married couples recount the initial meeting with their mates were so positive and reaffirming. They make me believe in marriage and togetherness again.

Although the 80’s wardrobe is a bit dated but the movie itself is still as good and fresh as when it first came out on the theatrical run. Watch this movie!

It is a very simple story. Nor so many twists, neither an unforgettable love affair. So, why do people love this little film so much? Because it is very, very heartfelt and deals with a subjetc very interesting. Plus, Sally Field’s performance is deeply touching.

“Norma Rae” is the story of a working woman who gets tired of being exploited by the factory she works for, which is one of the few companies in her town, where her whole family has been working for years, and in the future so will her children. After meeting a man from the Textil Union, she starts to get involved with the organization, and the fights for the workers’ rights as well. Slowly she gets concious that union and Union make a whole difference.

What I think is most interesting in this movie is the fact that is very timeless and placeless. Even now, 20 years later of its releasing, the subject is still up to date, everywhere there are employees fighting against unfair employers. And even though, it is about political and social aspects of society, the film does not tries to give you a lecture.

As I aforementioned, Sally Field deliveries very good. The transformation of Nora from a party girls who only wants to date and drink into a working class hero is completely believable. Moreover, we stay by her side all the time rooting for her gets the rights they want. The supporting cast does also a very good work. Ron Liebman — as the man who introduces Norma to the Union, and becomes a kind of mentor to her — and Beau Bridges — as her husband– are very impressive. Martin Ritt’s direction is very discreet and effective.

All in all, I highly recomend this movie. It is very entertaining and deep. People who are looking for some intelligent and touching film should go straight to this one.

Ok, let me start off by saying that I definitely feel that Peggy Sue Got Married is your classic “chick flick”. It has all the elements that women love, and men can’t understand.

Peggy Sue is divorced from her high school sweetheart Charlie, and is very unhappy, but finds herself going with her daughter to her high school reunion anyways. She faints and when she wakes up she is back in high school in 1960!

She keeps trying to break up with Charlie, since she knows how their future ends up; but Charlie refuses (how romantic).

All in all she remembers why it was that she loved Charlie, and realizes that no matter what they are destined to be together. When she returns to the present Charlie is there and apologizes for everything they have been through and wants to try to work things out.

This is one of the best endings to a movie. Her going back in time didn’t change anything, but made her realize that she and Charlie belong together. It doesn’t erase everything they have gone through, but when she wakes up she is ready to try again, as is Charlie. It didn’t magically erase their life and trials and create some fake happy-go-lucky, corny ending… but gave a (somewhat..) realistic ending.

An excellent, excellent movie!!
